Japanese Ambassador to the Maldives, Mr Kunio Takahashi, has paid a courtesy on President Mohamed Nasheed today.
Discussions at the meeting were mainly on the bilateral relations between Japan and the Maldives.
Ambassador Kunio Takahashi said he hoped with the technical cooperation agreement that was signed today between the Maldives and Japan at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Japan-Maldives relations would be further strengthened.
President Nasheed noted that the Maldives had received a significant amount of assistance form Japan, especially in the areas of education and infrastructure. The President thanked the Japanese government and its people for the continued cooperation and support to the Maldives.
The President and the Ambassador discussed other areas like fishery where cooperation could be enhanced between the Maldives and Japan.
