President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has this evening attended the ‎Maldives’ Tourism Promotion event held in Tokyo.‎

Speaking at the function, President Yameen noted with the global ‎recognition of the Maldives as a world class tourist destination, ‎ tourism ‎was now the most rewarding area for investment in the country. In this ‎regard, the President said the Government seeks the support of foreign ‎investors to further develop the industry.‎

‎In his speech, President Yameen spoke of the political turbulence in the ‎Maldives, at the time of his assumption of office. However, the President ‎reassured the investors of the prevalent peace and stability in the country. In ‎this regard, President said that Maldivians were now eager to overcome the ‎difference, maintain peace and go forward in the path of development.‎

The function was attended by leaders of the Japanese tourism industry, ‎publishers of travel magazines, travel and tour operators and the media.‎

Earlier today, the President attended a press conference organized by the ‎Japan National Press Club (JNPC). The President briefed the media on his ‎visit to Japan and on issues of current affairs in the Maldives. ‎

The President ‎also took questions from the local media on those issues.‎
