President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has appealed to all Maldivian citizens and State institutions to fully adhere to the “National Language (Priority) Act”. The President made this appeal in his address conveyed at the function held this evening, to mark Dhivehi Language Day, organized by Maldivian Writers’ Association Liyun’therin ge Gulhun.

In his address, the President has said that our national language was one of the most significant aspects of our nationalism. He has noted that Dhivehi language has been instrumental in all areas of national development, and in safeguarding our Islamic roots.

Further, President Yameen has said that our mother tongue played the most vital role in promoting social harmony and boosting economic growth of the country. Underlining that Dhivehi language was one of the greatest privileges of our nationalism, the President has said that it was our social obligation, as Maldivians, to give precedence to our national language.

The President’s address was conveyed by Vice President of Liyun’therin ge Gulhun, Abdul Azeez Jamal Aboobakuru
