President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has last evening met with the people of Addu City.

Addressing the people, President Yameen reiterated the Government commitment to work towards the development of Addu City, ‎and shared with the people, the on-going and proposed ‎ developmental projects for the atoll.

Speaking in this regard, the President noted that all arrangements have been made for the implementation of Government insurance scheme for fisherman to commence next month. The insurance scheme pledged in the Government manifesto, would ensure monthly wage of MVR 10,000, regardless of the catch.

The President also gave assurance that the construction work of Hithadhoo Islamic Centre, a 100-bed hospital and a new operation theatre at the Hithadhoo Regional Hospital would start this year.

In his speech President Yameen announced the Government plan to establish a water and sewerage system in each island of Addu City. He asserted that the project implementation would begin before the year ends.

The President arrived back in Male’ this morning, following the conclusion of his trip to Addu City.
