Today, President Mohamed Nasheed launched three major development projects in Kulhudhuffushi, during a visit to the island.
The three projects are a water supply project, a housing project and a road construction project for the island.
Addressing Kulhudhufushi people after a special function to launch the projects, the President reaffirmed government’s commitment to deliver its pledges to the people.
Highlighting the successful sewerage project in Kulhudhuffushi, President Nasheed said he was confident that the government would be able to provide potable water and sewerage systems for every island of the Maldives during his term in office.
The President discussed the process and time required for executing a sustainable project, adding that transparency and accountability was paramount for the success of projects.
Male’ Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC), which is implementing Kulhudhuffushi water project, says that during the first phase of the project a 250-tonne water desalinating plant will be installed.
Under the housing project, two-storey row houses will be built in the island. The row houses will have three bedrooms with attached toilets, a kitchen, dining room and a living room.
Speaking on the road construction project, President of Male’ Municipality Adam Maniku said under the first phase, Ameenee Magu, which is the biggest road, will be paved.
The President arrived in Kulhuduffushi Thursday afternoon. On his arrival, the President was warmly greeted by the Kulhudhuffushi people.
Also Biwater International Limited had signed a US$42 million water purchase agreement with Southern Utilities Limited to provide potable water to the Southern Province.
In his radio address, the President expressed confidence that the government will be able to provide a better life for the people.
