President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has sent a message of sympathy to President Xi Jinping of China, following the massacre at the Kunming railway station.

The President’s message reads as follows:

“The Government and the people of the Maldives and I are deeply shocked and horrified to learn about the heinous attack on innocent civilians at the Kunming railway station, causing tragic loss of lives and grievous injury to many. The Government and people of the Maldives strongly condemn all acts of terror in the strongest terms, and we express our firm solidarity with the People’s Republic of China in all its efforts in maintaining peace and harmony.”

“The Maldives stands firm in its commitment to the fight against the global menace of terrorism and will continue to work closely with the People’s Republic of China and the international community as a whole in eliminating the scourge of terrorism.”

“Thus attacks only serve to remind us that the world can no longer linger blindly to the tragedies engulfing our innocent people. We pledge our full support and extend our deepest sympathy to you, to the people and the Government of China. Please also convey our sincere condolences to the members of the bereaved families.”
