President Ratifies Second Amendment Bill to the Employment Act

President Mohamed Nasheed has ratified the Second Amendment Bill to the Employment Act that was passed by the People’s Majlis on
2 August 2010.

Following ratification the Act has been published in the Government Gazette.

According to the Second Amendment to the Act, every Muslim employee is entitled to an allowance no less than one third of the monthly salary, payable before the beginning of Ramadan.

However, the Act states that a minimum of Rf 2,000 shall be given while the maximum amount will be Rf 10,000.
