Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to the Maldives, His Excellency Dr. Jürgen Morhard has paid a courtesy call on President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom. The meeting was held this morning at the President’s Office.
At the meeting, President Yameen and Ambassador Morhard discussed bilateral relations and exchanged views on ways to further enhance cooperation between the two countries.
Noting that economic development and expanding opportunities for trade and investments was one of the main priorities of his Government, President Yameen briefed Ambassador Mohard on the Government strategies to improve the investment climate in the country. Continuing in this regard, the President also informed Ambassador Mohard about prospective projects for investments in the Maldives.
Highlighting that the promotion of human rights is an integral part of the Maldives’ foreign policy, President Yameen underscored the active role the Maldives continues to play in the international arena.
At today’s meeting, President Yameen also briefed Ambassador Morhard on the need to impress upon the EU the pertinence of extending GSP Plus facilities to the Maldives for a further period, to ensure that the country’s fishery exports could remain competitive in European markets.
Ambassador Morhard congratulated President Yameen on his assumption of office. He assured the President of Germany’s continuous support and assistance to the Maldives. He also expressed satisfaction over the prevalent peaceful environment in the country.
President Yameen was joined at the call by Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Dunya Maumoon, Minister at the President’s Office, Hon. Mohamed Hussain Shareef, and Foreign Secretary Dr. Ali Naseer Mohamed.
