Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to the Maldives, His ‎Excellency Dr. Jürgen Morhard has paid a courtesy call on President ‎Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom. The meeting was held this morning at the ‎President’s Office.‎

At the meeting, President Yameen and Ambassador Morhard discussed ‎bilateral relations and exchanged views on ways to further enhance ‎cooperation between the two countries.‎

Noting that economic development and expanding opportunities for trade ‎and investments was one of the main priorities of his Government, ‎President Yameen briefed Ambassador Mohard on ‎the Government ‎strategies to improve the investment climate in the country. Continuing in ‎this regard, the President also informed Ambassador Mohard about ‎prospective projects ‎for investments in the Maldives. ‎

Highlighting that the promotion of human rights is an integral part of the ‎‎Maldives’ foreign policy, President Yameen underscored the active role the ‎‎Maldives continues to play in the international arena.‎
At today’s meeting, President Yameen also briefed Ambassador Morhard ‎‎on the need to impress upon the EU the pertinence of extending GSP Plus ‎‎facilities to the Maldives for a further period, to ensure that the country’s ‎‎fishery exports could remain competitive in European markets.‎

Ambassador Morhard congratulated President Yameen on his ‎assumption ‎‎of office. ‎He assured the President of Germany’s continuous support and ‎‎assistance to the Maldives. He also expressed satisfaction over the ‎‎prevalent peaceful environment in the country.‎

President Yameen was joined at the call by Minister of Foreign Affairs, ‎‎Hon. Dunya Maumoon, Minister at the President’s Office, Hon. Mohamed ‎‎Hussain Shareef, and Foreign Secretary Dr. Ali Naseer Mohamed.‎
