President Mohamed Nasheed has today established the Local Government Authority as stipulated in Article 60 of the Decentralization Act (Act number 7/2010).
The Act states that the Local Government Authority shall be established to oversee and coordinate the activities of the local councils.
The President also decided that, as stated in Article 62(a) of the Act, the Minister of Home Affairs will be the Minister responsible for the Authority.
