President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has this evening met with the staff at the Maldivian High Commission in Colombo.

Speaking at the meeting, the President briefed the staff on the Foreign Policy of the Maldives, launched on 20 January 2014. The President noted that one of the main objectives of the foreign policy was to expand the consular services provided at the Maldivian missions abroad. In this regard, the President appealed to all the staff to put in every effort to strengthen the institutional capacity of the High Commission, in providing consular services to Maldivians.

The President further said that the Foreign Service Institute of Maldives, established on 16 January 2014, would facilitate capacity building and human resource development of the country’s foreign service sector.
