The Prime Minister of Pakistan, His Excellency Mr. Muhammad Nawaz Sharif has sent a congratulatory letter to the President of Maldives, His Excellency Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, on his assumption of presidential office.

In his letter, the Pakistani Prime Minister highlighted that President Yameen’s election was testimony to the confidence that the people of Maldives reposed in his leadership.

Emphasizing the warm relations, and centuries old bonds of faith, culture, history, values and traditions shared by the Maldives and Pakistan, Prime Minister Sharif recalled the close and cordial relationship he had developed with the former President Maumoon. Continuing in this regard, he expressed keenness to working with President Yameen in raising bilateral ties between the two countries to a higher plane.

Highlighting the immense political, strategic economic, environmental and social challenges facing the South Asian region, Prime Minister Sharif underscored the need for Maldives and Pakistan to work closely together on both bilateral and regional platforms to ensure peace, stability and prosperity of the region.

Prime Minister Sharif expressed his confidence, under the enlightened leadership of President Yameen, the cooperation between both the countries would strengthen and deepen further in all fields, to the mutual benefit of our peoples.
