President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has said that bilateral relations between the Maldives and India peaked during the tenure of Former President Maumoon. He made this remark in an interview with the local media, before his meeting with PPM’s president and former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom. The meeting was held this morning at the President’s Office.
The purpose of President Maumoon's meeting with President Yameen was to congratulate President Yameen on conclusion of his successful state visit to India, and also to assure the President of his party’s full support and cooperation to the Government.
Speaking to the media, President Yameen said that the close Indo-Maldives friendship began under President Maumoon’s foreign policy that was characterized by mutual respect for each other’s sovereignty. The President further reiterated his Government’s commitment to uphold the policies of the former President.
President Maumoon expressed his hope to see a mutually beneficial, cordial relationship existing between the Maldives and India.
