Foreign Secretary of India, Ms. Sujatha Singh has called on President Abdullah Yameen Abdul Gayoom.
The President and the Foreign Secretary discussed ways to enhance the existing close friendly relations between the two countries.
The Indian Foreign Secretary highlighted that during Former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom’s tenure, Indo-Maldives relations were always on a firm footing and the ties between the two countries was strengthened on the basis of important underlined principles. She went out to note that relations between the two countries were unique and that the securities of both the countries were indeed tied together. She expressed confidence that bilateral relations between India and Maldives would be further strengthened during President Yameen’s tenure.
Thanking Foreign Secretary for the excellent arrangements and warm hospitality, President Yameen emphasized that India would always be a special friend to the Maldives and that, in shaping Maldivian foreign policy, India’s interests and sensitivities would continue to be accorded the highest respect. Furthermore, the President recalled the mutual support that the two countries had extended at important international fora, and in particular when contesting for elected seats of International organizations.
President Yameen assured the Indian Foreign Secretary of his keenness to enhancing ties with India on a plethora of issues.
Joint Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla and the Indian High Commissioner to the Maldives Mr. Rajeev Sahare joined the call.
President Yameen was joined at the call by Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Dunya Maumoon, Minister at the President’s Office, Hon. Mohamed Hussain Shareef, Foreign Secretary, Mr. Ali Naseer Mohamed, High Commissioner of Maldives to India Mr. Mohamed Naseer, and by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Ms. Fathimath Inaya.
