Vice President Dr. Mohamed Jameel Ahmed has sent a message of condolence to South African President Jacob Zuma, following the passing away of former President Nelson Mandela. Describing the late Mandela as a hero for all of us, the Vice President has said that it was with profound sorrow that he learned of the passing away of South Africa’s beloved Madiba.

Highlighting Mandela’s patriotism, the Vice President has said that his principles shaped the destinies of South Africa in the quest for equality, peace and harmony.

“His fight against apartheid and for the freedom of all South Africans will be remembered and admired for generations to come. We remain indebted to President Nelson Mandela, also for his tireless advocating on the issues of inter-faith dialogue and global peace.”

Vice President Jameel concluded his message by extending heartfelt sympathies on behalf of the President, the Government and the people of the Maldives, and on his own behalf, to President Zuma, the government and the people of South Africa, and to the bereaved Mandela family.
