At a courtesy call on the new Maldivian Vice President Dr. Mohamed Jameel Ahmed, the Indian High Commissioner to the Maldives, Shri Rajiv Sahare today said that India and the Maldives enjoy “privileged ties” that had stood the test of time.
At the meeting held this morning at the President’s Office, Shri Sahare emphasized that India would continue to accord special privileges to the Maldives, who he described “not just an old friend, but a very good friend” of India. Congratulating Vice President Jameel, the Indian High Commissioner wished him the very best of success for his tenure in office.
Thanking High Commissioner Sahare, Vice President Jameel recalled that, in modern times, Indo-Maldives ties had flourished during the Gayoom presidency. He assured India of the Yameen administration’s firm commitment to advancing ties with India in all areas of development.
In today’s meeting, VP Jameel and High Commissioner Sahare discussed issues of mutual interest, including the joint talks on easing consular and visa restrictions for the benefit of travelers between the two countries. Other issues discussed today include healthcare, defense cooperation, human resource development and bilateral high-level ties.
Vice President Jameel was joined at the call by the Ministers at the President’s Office, Hon. Mohamed Hussain Shareef and Hon. Abdulla Ameen.
