President Dr. Mohamed Waheed has called on all political parties to protect the rights of more than 8200 students, sitting their GCE O-level Examinations this year. The President made this statement in an official press release issued today.

In his press release, President Waheed has stated that, freedom of assembly and freedom of expression are fundamental rights guaranteed by the Constitution, and accepted as conventional democratic principles. He said that, however, such freedoms shall not violate other constitutional rights, especially the rights of our students.

Therefore, President Waheed urged all political parties to exercise their freedoms in a way that does not interfere with the rights of all students, and refrain from causing disturbances around examination halls while exams are in progress.
