President Dr Mohamed Waheed has today officially opened the Urban Primary Health Centre Dhamana Veshi, in Male’.
Speaking at the ceremony, the President expressed his pleasure over the opening of a primary health centre. He said that it was in the government’s plans to open more primary health centres in Male’, and other areas of the greater Male’ City.
Highlighting the need for such establishments in his speech, the President said that the main purpose of these health centres was to provide easier means for the people to seek medical assistance, and to bring the services closer to the people. He said that it would also encourage the community to lead a healthier life, create public awareness, and promote good health.
Speaking on the challenges faced in providing public health services in the atolls, President Waheed requested the Ministry of Health to organise ways to improve the services. He also spoke on the importance of developing skills of health workers in the primary healthcare sector.
