President Dr Mohamed Waheed today officially opened Thimarafushi Airport.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, President said that the purpose of the airport was to provide easier means of transportation to the people. Speaking in this regard, President expressed assurance that the airport would bring rapid development to the atoll. He further noted that the airport would contribute to the development of tourism sector in the area.
In his speech, President Waheed underscored the infrastructural development requirements that need to be undertaken to fully complete the airport.
Highlighting the importance of united effort between different governmental organisations, President said that the airport was testimony of such effort.
