President Dr Mohamed Waheed has departed on a visit to Palestine this morning. He is also accompanied by First Lady Ilham Hussain.
President Waheed is making the visit on an invitation from Palestinian President Dr Mahmoud Abbas to officiate the 4th Islamic Conference of Bait Al Maqdis.
In addition to attending the Islamic Conference of Bait Al Maqdis that will be inaugurated on 5 June, President Waheed will also meet senior officials of the Palestinian government.
Meeting the local media at the Official Jetty prior to his departure, President Waheed said that he will discuss ways to strengthen the close ties between the Maldives and Palestine and explore ways the Palestine could assist the Maldives in development efforts.
