President Dr Mohamed Waheed has today met with officials from the Maldives Police Service, the Maldives National Defence Force, and the National Disaster Management Centre, regarding the damages being caused in the Southern regions of the Maldives, due to the extreme weather the country has been facing.

At the meeting held at the President’s Office, the President was briefed on the counter measures being taken by the authorities, with the collaboration of island communities.

President Waheed assured that the government would provide all the assistance and support needed.

The government has decided to provide assistance through the contingency budget of the Ministry of Finance and Treasury, to those islands with maximum damage.

The meeting was attended by Vice President Mohamed Waheed Deen, Minister of Finance and Treasury Abdulla Jihad, and Minister of Environment and Energy Dr Maryam Shakeela.
