The President has appealed the People’s Majlis to fast track the work on the bill on Maldivian Red Crescent. The President urged this in a letter sent to the President of the People’s Majlis today.
In his letter, the President said that as the Maldivian Red Crescent Society would be the only national organisation to represent the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, the government wanted to establish the Maldivian Red Crescent Society (MRCS) as a legal entity in accordance with the 1949 Geneva Conventions, Additional Protocols to the Conventions and the Regulation on the Use of the Emblem of Red Cross or Red Crescent by National Societies.
