President Dr Mohamed Waheed has urged to leverage the existing technologies for the economic development of the country. The President made this remark while speaking at the opening ceremony of ‘Connect 2013-Telecom and Information Communication Technology Expo’ that began today in Dharubaaruge.

Highlighting that the Information Telecommunications Industry was one of the fastest growing and highly evolving industries, the President expressed dismay that the existing technologies were not utilised fully.

Continuing in this regard, President Waheed said that this indicates that technology alone does not bring development. He said that development can be achieved by recognising the benefits, having a vision to utilize it, and by working towards achieving the set goals.

In his speech, President Waheed underlined the role of technology in delivering better public services. In this regard, he called upon the concerned authorities, to adopt strategies to maximize the use of available technology in providing better services in health, education and banking sectors.

Underlining the importance of ICT for national development, the President urged all parties to collaborate and work towards the advancement of the industry.
