The cabinet has today endorsed Education Minister Musthafa Luthfee’s work on national curriculum development.

The cabinet endorsement comes following the proposal of a no-confidence motion against the Education Minister by opposition MPs after the Ministry floated the idea of making the subjects of Islam and Dhivehi optional for grades 11 and 12.

The cabinet expressed satisfaction and confidence over Education Minister’s performance and his contributions toward improving the national education system.

Members of the cabinet noted it was encouraging that the main opposition Dhivehi Rayyitunge Party (DRP) had not spoken in support of the no-confidence bid.

At today’s meeting, the cabinet also underscored that the government was ready to talk to the opposition on its efforts in reviewing the national curriculum, including the teaching of Islam and Dhivehi.
