President Mohamed Nasheed has requested Police Integrity Commission to investigate the death of Ibrahim Afsal of Fulooniyaage Gdh. Gadhdhoo, after he allegedly doused himself in petrol and set himself alight at Gadhdhoo Police Station while being summoned for a police investigation.
He died while being treated for resultant severe burn injuries.
The President made the request as he deemed the matter required further investigation, and to determine whether there were any criminal negligence.
