As part of his state visit to Australia at the invitation of Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd, President Mohamed Nasheed has today met with Australian Minister for Climate Change, Energy Efficiency and Water Penny Wong; Minister for Foreign Affairs Stephen Smith; and, Minister for Home Affairs Brendan O’Connor.
During three separate meetings held this morning, the President and the ministers discussed the bilateral relations between the Maldives and Australia, and other issues of mutual concern including climate change. The President also sought Australian assistance in strengthening police service and prison system in the Maldives.
Ministers assured the President of the continued support and assistance of Australia to the Maldives.
