Government has decided that households in islands other than Male’ will not have to pay the increment in their electricity tariffs until a system of subsidizing electricity tariffs for the whole nation is formulated. It was also decided that a nationwide subsidy policy will be formulated by September this year.

The decision was made following the recommendations of the taskforce appointed by the President to assist National Social Protection Agency (NSPA) in giving subsidies.

As per the recommendations by the taskforce, government also decided that National Social Protection Agency (NSPA) will determine the households in the islands that are eligible to receive electricity subsidy before September this year.
