President Dr Mohamed Waheed has urged the people to maintain peace and stability during the lead to the elections. The President made this remark while addressing the people of Muli Island today, as part of his current visit to some islands in the Meemu Atoll.

Speaking in this regard, the President said that the political competitiveness during the elections period should not cause public unrest or disrupt the everyday life in the island. Underscoring that it is the government’s objective to ensure the smooth functioning of the country, the President stressed on the government endeavor to hold a free and fair elections.

Remarking on the challenges the country has undergone during the recent past, the President spoke of the volatility of the countrys’ current economic, political and social situation. In this line, the President said that with unwavering commitment of the government and people, peace had been established in the country.

Continuing in this regard, President urged the people to be observant of any activities in the political arena, which could take the country backwards to the challenging periods.

President underlined the importance of remaining steadfast upon the values and boundaries of Islam to safeguard a peaceful future for the nation.
