President Dr Mohamed Waheed has sent a message of sympathy to President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad of the Islamic Republic of Iran, following earthquake which hit the border area of southeast Iran on Tuesday.
The President’s message to the Iranian President reads as follows:
“It was with intense sadness that I learned about the powerful earthquake which hit the border area of southeast Iran with tremors felt across neighbouring countries. The rise in the number of dead, the significant damage and the widespread devastation to the infrastructure is of immense grief.”
“At this time of National distress, the Government and the people of Maldives join me in sending our profound sympathy to you, the Government and the people of Iran. I wish the recovery efforts every success and commend the tenacity of the Iranian people in the face of such tragedy.”
“Please convey our sincere condolences to the members of the bereaved families.”
