President Mohamed Nasheed has this afternoon visited Rakeedhoo and met with the people of the island. Speaking with the people, the President reiterated the government’s commitment to bring prosperity and development to the country in a sustainable manner.

The President also spoke on the benefits of a decentralised administration.

Highlighting the difficulties faced by the people of Rakeedhoo, the President said water, sewerage and powerhouse project would begin this year. He further said that that the government would try to find ways to reduce beach erosion, which is major problem faced by the people of Rakeedhoo.

President Nasheed also assured the people that the government was committed to fulfil its electoral pledges and said that the government was now working on this endeavour.

In his speech, the President said that it would not be possible to bring a good governance system by chasing the past.
