President Mohamed Nasheed has today ratified the bill on establishing Maldives Broadcasting Corporation, which was passed by the People’s Majlis on 6 April 2010.
The bill has been published in the Government Gazette.
The Act specifies the establishment of state broadcaster as a public broadcaster as well as the general structure and guiding principles of the corporation.
According to the Act, the corporation will be governed by a 9 member board of directors, which will in tern be answerable to the People’s Majlis. The Board of Directors will be appointed by the People’s Majlis.
The objective of establishing the corporation is to promote culture, language and to ensure that the corporation is free from political and commercial influence.
