By the powers vested in him in Article 116 of the Constitution, President Mohamed Nasheed has today established the Office of Programmes and Projects (OPP). The OPP is established under the Department of National Planning within the Ministry of Finance and Treasury.
The decision was made following recommendations and concerns raised by leading financial institutions and donor agencies to prevent poor planning and management of the projects that often leads to delayed delivery, poor quality and cost overruns.
The key objective of establishing the OPP is to have a central office mandated to reviewing the implementation and management of all government and internationally funded projects and programmes as well as to conduct all work relating to administration of contracts, projects and programmes.
