At the sidelines of the Maldives Donor Conference 2010 which began in Bandos Island Resort and Spa this morning, President Mohamed Nasheed met with representatives from donor countries and international donor organizations participating in the conference.
President Nasheed today met with Japanese Ambassador to the Maldives Mr Kunio Takahashi, Counsellor of Saudi Fund Mr Mohamed M. Al-Ghefili, and Kuwaiti Ambassador to the Maldives Mr Yaqoub Alateeqi. The President also met with Head of Delegation and State Minister of United Arab Emirates Dr Maitha Al-Shamsi, and United States Acting Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Michael Owens.
During the meetings, the President spoke on the objectives of the Maldives Donor Conference. The President also informed the officials of donor countries and donor organizations on the current economic situation of the Maldives, and the government’s economic stabilization and recovery programme.
At the meetings, President Nasheed thanked the countries and organizations the officials represent for their assistance to the development of the Maldives, and expressed confidence of their continued support and cooperation.
All the representatives of donor countries and organizations welcomed the government’s economic policies, and affirmed their support for these policies and the development of the Maldives.
