In an interview given to the Straits Times of Singapore, President Mohamed Nasheed has said the government faces huge development challenges due to lack of an integrated transport system in the Maldives.

In his interview, given to the Straits Times in New Delhi, today, the President emphasized the importance of a transport network as an adaptation measure against climate change.

The government has already made significant progress in establishing a transport system.

A transport network was introduced in the South Central Province in August, while the government has signed more contracts for establishing transport networks in other provinces.

Building an integrated transport system was one of the five key pledges of the new government.
