President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has extended his condolences to the family of the late Ismail Firaq, a long-serving employee of the Government. Ismail Firaq, 59, passed away last night while being treated at ADK Hospital for a prolonged illness.

Ismail Firaq represented the Maldivian Government in various capacities for over 19 years, including several high-ranking positions. He began his service at the Ministry of Atoll Administration as a Secretary and then served as an Assistant Project Officer and the Programme Analyst.

He then worked at the Ministry of Tourism as the Assistant Director and fulfilled the Deputy Director, Planning and Development capacity. He later served as the Director at the Ministry of Environment, Energy and Water and as the Director-General and Executive Director at the Ministry of Planning and National Development.

The late Ismail Firaq was the spouse of Fathimath Mohamed Solih, Secretary, Presidential Secretariat and Protocol at the President’s Office. Two children survive him.

Funeral prayers for the late Ismail Firaq were held at Masjid Al-Furqan following Dhuhr prayers today. The President, Vice President and senior Government officials, and a large congregation of the public attended the funeral.
