Vice President Faisal Naseem held online discussions this afternoon regarding Kulhudhufushi City’s situation due to the impact of COVID-19. In addition to the Vice President, the discussion was also attended by the Minister of Health, Abdulla Ameen; two Majlis members representing Kulhudhufushi City; members of the island's city council; and senior representatives from Kulhudhufushi Hospital.

The Vice President was briefed on the difficulties being faced by the city's residents, and by Kulhudhufushi City Hospital while providing their services during this global pandemic. Representatives from the hospital expressed their concern regarding several projects that have been halted as a result of the ongoing health crisis. They also noted immediate concerns regarding the waiting room capacity, general scarcity of space and a shortage of adequate equipment at the hospital neonatal intensive care unit (NICU).

Vice President Faisal Naseem also questioned the MPs regarding their constituents’ difficulties and concerns. The MPs explained all current challenges in various sectors and requested swift solutions to the problems. The Vice President also checked on the latest updates regarding ongoing projects in the city, particularly the projects relating to the city hospital.

Speaking to the participants of the discussion, Minister Ameen relayed that work is underway to find effective solutions for the problems being faced at Kulhudhufushi Hospital. He also stated that projects which are currently on-hold due to COVID-19 crisis would be resumed and that the Minister of Finance would be available to discuss budgetary solutions to the financial difficulties affecting health services nationwide.

Concluding the discussions, the Vice President advised pursuing projects that maximize quality and minimize costs. He assured the participants that the Government will find solutions for their difficulties, and encouraged them to continue attending to the needs of the public.
