President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has assured the Administration will continue its efforts and commitment to ensuring peace, prosperity and societal growth this new year. In his message to the Maldivian people on the occasion of the New Year 2020, the President recalled the Administration’s success in delivering its pledge of creating a positive and socially cohesive atmosphere and promoting peace and harmony.

In this regard, President Solih stated that 2019 had been a year in which the Administration triumphed in its efforts towards moderating political discord, revitalising efforts to mend individual and brotherly bonds, fostering international relations and welcoming unity, economic progress and stability. Ascertaining the Administration’s commitment to delivering the people’s aspirations for a better future, the President affirmed that it would continue in its efforts to provide dignified lives, financial stability, social justice and equitable prosperity for all.

Towards this end, President Solih further assured that the Administration would continue in its path of combating injustice, protecting human dignity, advocating for human rights, upholding the rule of law, ensuring Constitutional rights and alleviating disparities.

Emphasising that we are welcoming the New Year with a renewed spirit towards socio-economic development, President Solih highlighted on the new changes brought about with the recent ratification of the Eighth Amendment to the Decentralisation Act. Noting that 2020 would be a new chapter in decentralised administration, the President stated that it ensures the Administration’s vision of a ‘Jazeera Raajje,’ paves the way for fiscal and legal autonomy of local councils and empowers women with a new beginning in their rightful place in society.

Wishing all citizens on the joyous occasion of the New Year, President Solih concluded his message urging everyone to be respectful of each other’s rights and ideologies and embrace a path of peace and stability.
