Vice President Faisal Naseem has met with the relevant authority officials to discuss ways to deal with Islamophobia and religious extremism in the Maldives. The meeting was held today at the Presidents Office.

During the meeting, the Vice President met with the special committee assembled by the President on the advisement of the cabinet to tackle and find a solution to the uprising issue on religious criticism targeted towards the Islamic faith. Topics of discussions covered in the meeting include counter-terrorism and challenges in maintaining a religiously enduring society in the Maldives. The members of committee shared information and latest updates in regards to the work carried out by the relevant authorities in this regard.

In the meeting the Committee members and the Vice President highlighted that difficulties faced by the authorities in dealing with such individuals were due to the current laws and pressed on the need to amend the law in question.

Vice President emphasized on the importance of creating and upholding a tolerant society.

The meeting was attended by Minister of Defence, Minister of Islamic Affairs, Minister of Home Affairs, Minister of Higher Education, Minister of Youth Sports and Community Empowerment, Commissioner of Police and Chief of Staff at the Presidents Office.
