In his address on the occasion of this year’s Children’s Day, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has stated that ensuring every Maldivian child born was brought up with love and compassion, was one of the most important priorities of his administration.

In the address published today, the President has highlighted that the Maldives has in place a safe and adequate living environment for children, as compared to other countries of the region. He also noted that there were vital areas for improvement, and that one of the most important undertakings of the government was the compilation of the Bill on the Rights of the Child.

The President has also shed light on the importance of nutrition and physical well-being of children for their overall health. He has said that an official mechanism which fits within the education system was needed to ensure children’s health and safety. In this regard, the President called upon all parents and guardians to steer their children away from unhealthy and harmful lifestyle habits.

Further, President Solih has noted that instilling Islamic values and principles in our children is the only way to ensure a dignified family. Continuing on, the President has said that the only way to ensure this is to keep our children away from ideologies of division and discord, and to encourage them towards ways of unity and coexistence.

The Maldives celebrates Children’s Day on the 10th of May.
