President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has convened a committee of 5 members, to investigate all issues related to previous housing projects of the government including the “Hiyaa” project, “Gedhoruveri kurun” project and “Gulhifalhu Housing Project”. The committee was convened on the 19 December 2018. The secretariat of the committee will be administered by the Rapid Action Unit of the Policy Office at the President’s Office.

The committee is mandated with undertaking the review of issues related to social housing projects, as included in President Solih’s 100 day’s goals.

The newly established committee’s mandate includes reviewing the lists of those who have secured social housing under “Hiyaa” and “Gedhoruveri kurun” projects and ensuring that all the applicants were scored fairly; and identifying those who were responsible for misconduct in allocating flats under the schemes and recommending follow-up actions to the President.

The committee will also counsel the President on ways to compensate for the damages faced by those who have made payments for social housing under “Gulhifalhu Housing Project” but did not acquire flats under the scheme.
