President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has established the National Disaster Management Authority, as required by the Disaster Management Act. The establishment of the institution replaces the National Disaster Management Centre.
The National Disaster Management Authority was established in an effort to minimise the impact of disasters, by establishing a proper mechanism to organise and coordinate disaster management activities at national, atoll, and island levels that are conducted by State institutions, NGOs, and the private sector.
