President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has reiterated the administration’s commitment to upholding the country’s independence and sovereignty. The President made this assurance to the Maldivian people, while meeting the local media to brief on his recent State Visit to India.

The President made his first State Visit from 16 to 18 December 2018, at the invitation of the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Speaking at the news conference held today, President Solih stated that the Maldives and India will continue to support each other in fighting terrorism, maintaining border security and safeguarding the Maldivian economic territory.

President Solih further reassured that the administration will not entertain a foreign country to establish a military base in the Maldives or accommodate foreign military troops.
