President Dr Mohamed Muizzu stated that the Government is working to ensure local councils receive increased funding in the form of block grants and additional revenue. He made these remarks while addressing the residential community of K. Guraidhoo today.

The President underscored the necessity to reform the practice of allocating a minor portion of the State budget to the local councils. He stressed endeavours to allocate a share of the State's revenue to the councils as well. Additionally, he outlined intentions to allocate 5% of the existing block grants exclusively for the Women's Development Committee's activities. The President acknowledged the need for legal amendments to implement these changes.

President Dr Muizzu further spoke on the land reclamation project of Guraidhoo, assuring that essential services like water, sanitation, and electricity for the reclaimed land will be tailored to meet the preferences of the residents. He stated the objective of constructing a building with multiple classrooms and multipurpose hall to address the shortage of school space, aligning with the Council's request. Additionally, the Presidnet noted that upon the conclusion of the health centre development project, it will be upgraded to a fully operational hospital, aligning with the community's aspirations.
