Vice President Faisal Naseem has met with the Gaafaru Island Council and discussed ways in which local councils can be more proactive within the society, in line with the administration’s pledge to increase their empowerment. The meeting was held today at the President’s Office.

Speaking at the meeting, Vice President Naseem highlighted the activities that could be undertaken by the councils for the socioeconomic progress of the island communities. He requested the Gaafaru Councillors to encourage the island’s residents to utilise the many facilitations being provided by the government, especially in the education sector. The Vice President also asked the council members to reinforce their activities held jointly with the schools to ensure further strengthening of the school system.

The Vice President also urged the council members to always put forth public safety, and called upon the council members to ensure all safety measures are put in place. He further advised the councillors to organise more awareness campaigns related to preventative health measures.

Speaking at the meeting, the Gaafaru Council members briefed the Vice President on the concerns raised by the island’s residents, and the challenges being currently faced in the island. They also highlighted the development plan set for the island.
