President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has on Thursday, ratified two Amendment Bills to the Export Import Act of Maldives (Act No. 31/79).

The Amendment Bills ratified by the President are the 15th Amendment to the Export Import Act of Maldives, passed by the Parliament on Tuesday, December 11, 2018, at the 20th sitting of the third session of the People’s Majlis, and the 16th Amendment to the Export Import Act of Maldives, passed by the Parliament on Wednesday, December 12, 2018, at the 21st sitting of the third session of the People’s Majlis.

Following ratification of the 15th Amendment to the Export Import Act of Maldives, import duty has been waived from goods imported for agricultural needs that have been predetermined by the respective Ministry.

Following ratification of the 16th Amendment to the Export Import Act of Maldives, import duty has been waived from diesel used in fishing vessels.

Both revisions reflect the administration’s goals pledged to be fulfilled in its first 100 days.

President Solih has also ratified an additional four bills, as passed by the Parliament on Wednesday, December 12, 2018, at the 21st sitting of the third session of the People’s Majlis.

The four additional bills ratified today are the 9th Amendment Bill to the Maldives’ Tourism Act (Act No. 2/99), the 2nd Amendment Bill to the Prisons and Parole Act (Act No. 14/2013), the 4th Amendment bill to the Companies Act of the Republic of Maldives (Act No. 10/96) and the 1st Amendment Bill to the Act on the Prioritization of the National Language of the Maldives (Act No. 9/2011).

Upon ratification, the Acts have now been published on the government gazette.
