After deliberations held on the topic today the Cabinet recommended assigning some the services currently provided by City Council to other Institutions within the Administration.

Cabinet decided to shift the responsibility of reviving and preserving Maldivian cultural activities along with maintenance of indigenous structures, from Malé City Council to Department of Heritage. Also the Ministry of Islamic Affairs will now oversee funeral prayer and burial services. These changes were brought by the Presidents as per articles under the “Decentralisation Act” (Act No. 7/2010).

The cabinet further discussed and approved the paper submitted by the Ministry of Economic Development on embracing the ‘Hague Apostille Convention’ in the Maldives. The convention specifies the modalities through which a document issued in one of the signatory countries can be certified for legal purposes in all other signatory states.
