President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has appealed to the opposition for an environment conducive for him to fulfill his duties as a President. He made the appeal while speaking at the closing ceremony of the “President Yameen 2018” symposium; the third such symposium on training campaign leaders.

Speaking at the ceremony, the President pointed that when electing a President who will serve the nation, it is important to elect someone who will serve in accordance with legislature. He also pointed that it is the duty of the President to provide the basic services to the citizens and means for economic development. He added that what Maldivians need most of all is peace and harmony amongst themselves.

If the citizens of a country are not economically independent, then the country cannot be referred to as a developing country he said. The President further stated that a great President is someone who can bring the required changes and development to the nation with the available resources and is someone who can enhance the country from what it is currently.

In his speech, the President highlighted that this administration has carried out many projects to develop the country. He highlighted the two major areas in which the most development has taken place as health and education.

Commenting on the health sector, the President noted that medical tests of 6000 patients were made under the consultation of visiting super specialists. He also noted that now, the service of sea ambulance has been provided to all the atolls of Maldives.

In addition to this, while noting the achievements of the education sector, the President stated that within the last two year, 423 classrooms, 19 halls, 21 computer laboratories and 12 science laboratories have been built. Also, the President noted that special courses were conducted so that all the teachers have the qualification of diploma. The President also stated that in order to remain a 100% Muslim country and to promote Dhivehi language, more teachers will be trained from the Islamic University of Maldives to teach Islam and Dhivehi.

The closing ceremony was attended by First Lady Fathimath Ibrahim, Cabinet Ministers, Members of People’s Majlis and Senior officials of the Government.
