President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has stated that there was no need to involve and let external parties interfere with our domestic affairs, saying that Maldivians had the intellectual capacity to solve our problems on our own terms. He said this while speaking at the ceremony held this afternoon to officially open the harbour in Vashafaru, North Thiladhummathi Atoll.

While speaking at the ceremony, the President highlighted that Maldives had been endowed with the god given gift of natural beauty and unique natural resources. He called on all to ask ourselves why we are not content with these invaluable resources.

At the ceremony, the President said that he was ready to combat and eliminate corruption in the country and further asked all the political parties for their good faith and support in dealing with cases of corruption.

The President stated that he had the responsibility to run the country according to the constitution and that he wants to rule the country within the limits of the laws and regulations, to bring peace and justice to the people of Maldives.

During this ceremony the President was awarded a plaque of appreciation by the council members of Vashafaru, on behalf of the people of that island. Apart from the President, Minister of Housing and Infrastructure Dr. Mohamed Muiz and Parliament Member of Kelaa constituency Hon. Ali Arif addressed the attendees of the event.

The President was accompanied at the ceremony by, Minister of Housing and Infrastructure Dr. Mohamed Muiz, Parliament Member of Vilimale constituency Hon. Ahmed Nihan Hussain Manik, Parliament Member of Kelaa constituency Hon. Ali Arif and Chief Executive Officer of MTCC Mr. Abdul Razzaq Haleem.
