The new Ambassador of Mexico designated to the Maldives, Her Excellency Melba Pria has presented her credentials to President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, on Monday morning.

At the ceremony held at the President’s Office to present the credentials, President Yameen congratulated Ambassador Pria on the commencement of her term. Meeting the new Ambassador afterwards, the President and the Ambassador discussed ways to further strengthen ties between the Maldives and Mexico.

The President noted that Maldives being a small country accorded the highest priority to the issue of climate change. The President also underscored that despite the Maldives being a young democracy, the Government puts in every effort to reach its development goals.

Speaking at the meeting, the Mexican Ambassador pointed out the similar issues faced in the Maldives and Mexico such as climate change; lack of proper waste management, quality education and human resources. The Ambassador also mentioned the developmental challenges faced in Mexico, being a small country.

The meeting was attended by Minister of Foreign Affairs, Her Excellency Dunya Maumoon, and Minister at the President’s Office, His Excellency Mohamed Hussain Shareef.
