Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa felicitates President Yameen on his assumption of presidential office

The President of Sri Lanka, His Excellency Mahinda Rajapaksa has congratulated the new President of Maldives, His Excellency Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, on his assumption of presidential office.

In his letter, the Sri Lankan President highlighted that President Yameen’s victory bears testimony to the confidence that the people of Maldives place on his policies and leadership.

Emphasising that Maldives’s steadfast solidarity and support to Sri Lanka in international fora has further strengthened the close relations that exist between the two countries, President Rajapaksa expressed confidence that the two countries would further expand ties in the years ahead.
