President Dr Mohamed Waheed has decided to confer Nishaan Muleege Sharafge Izzaiy on Mr Bob N. Harilela, the Honorary Consul General of Maldives in Hong Kong. The President’s Office will deliver the medal to Mr Harilela, as he is currently residing in Hong Kong.

Nishaan Muleege Sharafge Izzaiy (Order of Distinguished Rule of Muleege) was created in honour of Al-Sultan Mohamed Shamsuddeen, and is one of the high ranking honours conferred by the State.

The President decided to confer the medal upon Mr Bob N. Harilela, in recognition of his immense contribution towards the betterment of the Maldivian people, particularly his active role in promoting trade and investments into the Maldives, especially in the tourism sector.

Mr Harilela was appointed Honorary Consul of the Maldives to Hong Kong in 1993, where he has been continuously promoting trade and investments into the Maldives. Mr Harilela was also instrumental in the successful negotiations of the air travel services agreement between Hong Kong and the Maldives which has culminated in regular direct operational air services between Maldives and Hong Kong.
